What is the most profitable poker strategy?

The only profitable strategy is exploiting the specific mistakes the players at your table make, not following any textbook style. There is no style that wins against everyone. At low stakes in Oslo, people fold too much to big river bets and call too much with weak pairs, so you adjust to which one is happening at your table.

The reason articles confuse you is they are written for a generic opponent, and you have not met him yet. You need to watch each player for an orbit and find their leak. That guy who calls every flop with any draw, you value bet him thin.

The woman who folds to a third bet on the river, you bluff her when the scare card hits. This is the part that actually pays. Losing for three months is normal when you are learning, but if you want this as a side income, you need to stop playing your cards and start playing their faces.

Online tools changed the game, but live low stakes is still full of tells and patterns you can read. A coach is often the quickest route to seeing your own blind spots. If you keep losing after you start doing this deliberately, the next step is not more patience.

Count your hours and track kr per hour. If it is negative after fifty hours of real adjustment, that is your answer.

One thing that works at low stakes here: most players over-fold to big river bets. So when a scare card lands and you have nothing, fire a big bluff at someone you have seen fold to pressure before. Disproportionately profitable, but only against that specific player.

Played low-stakes hold'em tourneys since before the hole-card cams. Chip counting is not a personality.

Exploiting opponents is right for cash, but the most profitable strategy depends on where you play. Home games were easy, same people every week, I read them after one orbit. Moved online and lost for six months because everyone was a stranger. Location changes the whole game.

The most profitable thing I ever did was switching from cash to tournaments. Cash gave me 50 kr an hour after expenses, boring and steady. Then one final table in a small tournament paid 4,000 kr.

That one month changed my average completely. It is variance, not skill, but the upside is real. Most people miss that trade-off.

Ran the card room at a riverboat for 15 years. I’ve seen a royal fold more times than you’d believe.
